National Day of Action
The United Way Day of Action was held on:
Saturday, June 21, 2008
The national Day of Action was held on the summer solstace, the longest day of the year. United Way's across the nation brought together volunteers and advocates to spend the day bringing about lasting change in our community.
United Way of Madison County and Redstone Federal Credit Union partnered to distribute books to deserving 3 and 4 year-olds who do not have access to books in their homes. Parents brought their 3 or 4 year-old to the United Way of Madison County building () between 9:00 a.m. and 12 noon on Saturday, June 21st and received a free book.
Miss Lexie Robinson and Miss Beth Locy from Huntsville Public Library had the Ready Reader van on hand and provided supervised story times throughout the morning. While children listened to exciting stories, parents were encouraged to visit with Nancy Colin to learn how to make everyday moments learning opportunities for their children. Publix will supplied children’s snacks.
United Way accepted donations of new or gently used children’s books and received several boxes to distribute throughout the year to all of our partner agency programs that work with children. Any child who brought three (3) books to donate received a free Live United t-shirt.
