ABOUT UNITED WAY
What We Do: Focus Areas
The United Way targets its community impact on three focus areas:
Education - essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits
Strategies:
- Enhance early language development (literacy)
- Promote and achieve quality day care/early childhood education
- Strengthen family involvement
Income - paying for today's necessities and saving for the future=financial stability
Strategies:
- Expand workforce development
- Address homelessness (stable housing - home ownership)
- Improve financial literacy by engaging partners and leveraging resources
Health - available, accessible and affordable health care keeps children on track at school, adults productive at work and the elderly independent in their own homes
Strategies:
- Improve and maintain people's health
- Avoid risky behavior
- Strengthen the community's preparedness and response to crisis
Remove any one of these building blocks and the other two topple.
